Spanish Immersion Experiences

Spanish doesn’t stick in a classroom. It sticks on a market stall in Málaga, on a glacier walk in Patagonia, ordering tapas in your best (or worst) Spanish and having a local laugh with you, not at you.

That’s the whole idea behind our immersion trips. Kelly spent twenty years living and working across South America before building Adventures in Spanish, and every trip we run is designed the way she wishes someone had designed one for her own kids: small groups, real conversations, proper cultural experiences, and just enough structure that parents can relax and let their children get on with it. Whether you’re looking for a week in Spain this year or you’re already dreaming about Argentina, here’s what’s coming up.

MÁLAGA IMMERSION TRIP

Our flagship trip, and the one families keep coming back for. A week of daily Spanish lessons with our partner language school, afternoons exploring Málaga’s history and culture, and evenings spent putting the day’s lessons into practice with new friends. Places are limited to keep group sizes small — home stays fill first.

What people are saying about our Spanish Immersion Trips

I have never seen an organiser so involved in every aspect of an event. Every question was answered, every possible issue was resolved before it even appeared, and every emotional or educational need was met with genuine care and professionalism.

It was our second trip to Málaga with Kelly — wonderfully organised, an amazing learning experience for the children, and a proper family holiday on top of everything else. As a home-educating parent, I love witnessing how our children learn Spanish in such natural settings, without even realising how much more confident they sound after just four days in Spain.

As a parent, I feel very lucky to have found a place where I can be 100% sure of my children’s safety, because I know that I can trust Kelly — she’s always on top of every detail related to the trip and always within reach via messenger or email.

As a human being, I deeply enjoy being surrounded by amazing people in a beautiful place — swimming in the sea, going for walks, while our teenage children explore the city on their own, building friendships and memories of a happy childhood.

Parent: Málaga trip 2025

We just wanted to say a huge thank you for the amazing trip. It must have taken an enormous amount of work and it clearly shows in all the thoughtful touches and great organisation. ‘S’ has benefited hugely from the experience and thoroughly enjoyed himself. We hope all the happy little faces make it all seem worthwhile. Many, many thanks.

I loved all aspects of the trip, especially developing my confidence in using Spanish day to day. It was so much fun! I made lots of new friends which helped me build up my confidence in speaking Spanish and learning more about the language and culture of Malaga.

Chloe, age 16: Málaga trip 2025

Our second home education immersion trip to Málaga, organised by Kelly, was nothing short of amazing. Kelly went above and beyond to ensure that both my girls and I had an unforgettable experience. The trip offered the perfect balance of learning and fun. My daughters had the opportunity to enhance their Spanish language skills in an engaging environment while making lasting friendships with other children. It was incredible to see them grow in confidence in their language abilities.

As an adult learner, I also took part in Spanish lessons, which provided a much-needed boost to my own language skills after a long hiatus. The classes were both stimulating and accessible, making it the perfect way to re-engage with learning. I’m so grateful for this fantastic opportunity and can’t recommend it highly enough.

Whether you’re a child or an adult, this trip is an enriching experience that helps foster a love for learning in a beautiful setting. We can’t wait for the next one!

Faiza: Málaga trip 2024

“The teacher, Anna was really nice. If we didn’t understand the word/phrase, she would draw/show us a picture. She tried to make sure there were no distractions. Anna was fun and gave us interesting activities.”

Alyssa & Carina: Málaga trip 2024

It was a great trip for the whole family. We are very grateful to Kelly Thornhill and AIL Malaga for ensuring everything went smoothly, for providing excellent learning materials and, more importantly, for creating unique opportunities for using Spanish “in real life”. I see how this trip made my children (10 and 14 yo) more confident and resourceful in speaking Spanish. New friendships were made there, much joy and laughter shared. Learning that looks like vacation – what can be better?”

Elena, Málaga trip 2024

This opportunity, in particular the way you have run it, has given him so many learning opportunities. On top of the learning, just the confidence boost from being immersed in the language and culture is worth every penny

Anna, Málaga trip 2023

Fantastic! This was a wonderful opportunity for the girls to go and improve their Spanish! The girls have spoken so highly of the trip, including how lucky they are for Kelly to take the time and effort to organise the trip, and for how brilliant their teachers were at AIL. They loved the immersive experience of being able to put their Spanish into practice with locals and the afternoon trips in Spanish helped to cement their learning further, in addition to learning about the history of Malaga. Thank you Kelly for such an amazing experience the girls will treasure!

Jay had a great time, the booking was easy, we loved getting daily updates and it was great to know Jay was with some lovely people. I think Jay might be up for another trip when GCSE exams are over!

Jennie, Málaga trip 2023

As a 14 year old girl, AIL Malaga and Kelly gave me a chance to make good friends and do fun activities with a group of kids my own age. The lessons were fun and informative and I feel like I learnt a lot.

Bronte, Málaga trip 2023

Trip was brilliant! Really enjoyed it, and was well planned before hand so I knew what the plan was. We had a zoom call as well before the trip so as to meet everyone and to go over anything or questions. The activities to the local market and the promenade were fun, and an activity where we had to talk to the people and ask questions really boosted my confidence! The lessons were fun and interactive and was an equal amount of writing and activities. The teachers were amazing too and were great! Overall a brilliant trip! Would definitely recommend and would do again!

Chloe, Málaga trip 2023

I enjoyed this trip because the lessons were very appropriate for my standard, and I didn’t find the lessons too hard or too easy in class. I mostly enjoyed the afternoon activities because I always learnt something new, my favorite was the Alcazaba on the first day because I have not been in it before and it was very interesting learning all the things about its different sections. I made lots of new friends and there were lots of bonding activities to take part in. The facilities were very clean and it did not feel overcrowded or empty at any point. I would highly suggest this to anybody who would like to have a more immersive trip to learn more Spanish and speak with more confidence.
