Spanish Explorers – Summiteers is our brand-new A-Level Spanish programme for home-educated, home-schooling and worldschooling students aged 16–18, preparing for the AQA A-Level Spanish (7692) qualification.
This isn’t just an exam course. It’s a two-year journey into the language, cultures and people of the Spanish-speaking world.
At A-Level, Spanish becomes much more than vocabulary and grammar. Students learn to debate current affairs, analyse literature and film, discuss politics and social issues, and communicate with the confidence and sophistication expected at university and beyond. Along the way, they’ll develop the fluency, independence and cultural understanding that opens doors to higher education, travel and international careers.
Unlike many traditional A-Level courses, Summiteers combines rigorous exam preparation with authentic language learning. Created by Adventures in Spanish founder Kelly Thornhill, the programme brings the Spanish-speaking world to life through real cultural experiences, perspectives and stories from across Spain and Latin America.

With a maximum of just 8 students per class, every learner actively participates in every lesson. There are no hiding places at A-Level – and that’s exactly what helps our students develop outstanding speaking skills.
Each week combines advanced grammar, authentic listening and reading materials, discussion and debate, translation, exam practice and independent study, creating confident, well-rounded linguists rather than students who simply learn to pass a test.

Summiteers has been created by Kelly Thornhill, founder of Adventures in Spanish, with a vision to help young people experience Spanish as a living language — not simply a subject to study.
After spending 15 years living in Argentina and travelling extensively throughout the Spanish-speaking world, Kelly understands that language is built through connection, culture and real communication.
Through Adventures in Spanish, Kelly has spent years helping children and young people develop confidence in Spanish through immersive, engaging and culturally rich learning experiences.
Summiteers brings that same approach to A-Level study: combining the academic rigour needed for exam success with a genuine understanding of the people, history and cultures behind the language.

Exam success without losing the joy
Every aspect of the course is carefully mapped to the AQA A-Level specification, with regular practice in listening, reading, translation, essay writing and speaking. Our aim is simple: students achieve excellent grades while developing genuine confidence in Spanish.
Throughout the two-year programme, students will:
- Build advanced grammar and vocabulary
- Discuss contemporary social issues entirely in Spanish
- Explore Hispanic culture, history and politics
- Study an A-Level film and literary text
- Develop sophisticated essay-writing skills
- Complete an Individual Research Project on a topic they are passionate about

Optional enrichment
Learning a language should never be confined to a classroom.
Students will have opportunities to take part in optional online conversation sessions, cultural workshops and, for those who wish, our Spanish immersion experiences, allowing them to experience the language in the real world alongside fellow Adventures in Spanish students.
