Father’s Day is a special occasion celebrated worldwide to honor fathers and father figures. In Spanish-speaking countries, this day, known as “Día del Padre,” is observed with unique traditions and customs that reflect the rich cultural heritage of each nation. In most South American countries Fathers Day is celebrate on the same day as it is in the UK, the third Sunday in June, with a couple of exceptions.

In Spain, “El Día del Padre,” is celebrated on March 19th, coinciding with the feast day of Saint Joseph, the patron saint of fathers. This day is a public holiday in some regions, such as Valencia and Murcia.

Argentinian families have two dates they celebrate Día del Padre on; the third Sunday of June is the official Día del Padre. The day is filled with family-oriented activities, including barbecues known as “asados,” where delicious meats are grilled to perfection. Then there’s an unofficial Día del Padre celebrated on 17th August which coincided with the passing of General José de San Martín, a national hero and liberator who helped lead the revolutions against Spanish rule in Argentina (1812).
