Being able to tell someone when it’s your birthday in Spanish is a clear sign that you are on the right track with your learning.
There are two things it’s important to know from the beginning;
Firstly; we have the noun “birthday” which in Spanish is el cumpleaños, and then we have the verb cumplir which means to turn a certain age.
We can use both of these for two different ways of saying when your birthday is. Let’s say for example it’s your birthday next week and you want to tell your friend hey it’s my birthday next week. You’ve got two options; you can use the noun by saying
la semana próxima (o la semana que viene both mean next week) es mi cumpleaños
In a different order with the same meaning:
es me cumpleaños la semana próxima
Or you can use the verb cumplir años by saying
la semana que viene cumplo anos
Of course with the verb cumplir being an ir ending verb, and you’re saying it in the first person we conjugate the verb by removing the ir ending and replacing it with the -o.
es me cumpleaños la semana próxima or la semana que viene es mi cumpleaños
or
la semana que viene cumplo anos
Because of course maybe you’re having una fiesta or you’re inviting people around for some torta or pastel the and it’s important to get those dates right!
If you want to be specific with a date por ejemplo I might say “my birthday is on the 20th of August” I could say
Es mi cumpleaños el 20 de agosto or Cumplo años el 20 de agosot
